For the latest international and multilateral intervention in Haiti to serve the population effectively, it is essential to understand what Haitians themselves want from any peace process, and what they think of the country’s current situation and challenges. This paper aims to fill that gap. It presents the findings of a nationwide, in-person survey of 1,332 Haitian adults, conducted in May 2026 with Q-Q Research Consultants.

The survey finds that Haitians overwhelmingly want security, early elections, and improvements in healthcare and education. Support for the new UN-backed Gang Suppression Force (GSF), which supersedes the previous Multinational Security Support mission, is mixed. Haitians are more united in distrusting the political class. In addition, there is widespread opposition to any idea that gang members responsible for Haiti’s violent breakdown should receive amnesty as part of a disarmament, demobilization and reintegration (DDR) process, an indication that DDR will require community support. Any political deal or elite bargain that could give former gang leaders a role in government would also not have popular support.
