U.S. Embassy issues alert after heavy gunfire reported in Port-au-Prince, Haiti

The U.S. Embassy in Port-au-Prince advises U.S. citizens of ongoing security operations north and south of the embassy and in Croix-de-Bouquets. Heavy gunfire is reported in the area. U.S. government personnel have halted all movements. The embassy remains open for emergency services.

The U.S. objective for Haiti remains the establishment of baseline security and stability. The U.S. would regard any effort to change the composition of the government by the non-elected TPC at this late stage in its tenure to be an effort to undermine that objective and as such null and void. The U.S. would consider anyone supporting such a disruptive step favoring the gangs to be acting contrary to the interests of the United States, the region, and the Haitian people and will act accordingly.

Les chefs de gangs de ce pays des Caraïbes en proie à des troubles sont des utilisateurs assidus des réseaux sociaux: ils y ont célébré des meurtres, proféré des menaces et publié des réflexions. Les jeunes membres de ces gangs publient également des clips musicaux et exhibent l’argent qu’ils ont gagné, dans le but de recruter des enfants dans ce pays pauvre.
